Overview

The objective of this role is to manage and lead a branch office and its teammates to meet and exceed all operational, customer experience, and revenue growth objectives. The Branch Manager is responsible for the execution of the C&F Customer Experience strategies driven by our Focused on You brand to benefit customers, shareholders, C&F teammates, and the community.  Branch Managers have high personal accountability for account, loan, and deposit growth driven by new customer acquisition with concentration in small business.  Branch Managers are also accountable for growing and retaining key current customer relationships.

Responsibilities

Deliver on the Brand (25%)

  • Role models all elements of the C&F Customer Experience; uses C&F Customer Experience strategies to acquire new customers as well as retain and deepen current customer relationships
  • Role models, teaches, coaches, and holds direct reports accountable for performance of all C&F Customer Experience strategies: C&F Service Experience, C&F Service Recovery, C&F Relationship Review (consumer and business), C&F Active Site Leadership, and C&F Risk Management
  • Serves as a leader in the business community by taking an active role in civic organizations, networking groups, and volunteerism for the purpose of strengthening the brand and growing the Bank
  • Ensures full knowledge of all digital banking services through personal utilization of these services in order to effectively communicate all features and benefits to both customers and prospects while also maintaining the ability answer questions regarding functionality
  • Sponsors and leads promotional strategies and activities to achieve set goals for new customer acquisition leading to growth in deposits, loans, fee income, and digital banking services enrollment and adoption 

Acquire New Customer Relationship (25%)

  • Prospects and obtains new consumer and business deposit relationships via referrals, business community networking, and Bank-sponsored events
  • Acquires new consumer and small business lending relationships via referrals, proactive business prospecting, business community networking, and Bank-sponsored events
  • Educates prospects on digital banking services options and enrolls as appropriate

Recruit, Grow, and Retain Talent (25%)

  • Conducts formal coaching meetings with direct reports to measure/analyze performance vs. goal, ascertain root causes for gaps, and generates appropriate action plans
  • Provides informal/on-the-spot coaching to recognize skilled behaviors and improvements as needed
  • Ensures Assistant Managers, if applicable, have identical routines with their direct reports; observes to assess coaching effectiveness
  • Builds a team that collaboratively solves problems
  • Conducts quarterly and annual performance assessments with each direct report
  • Develops actionable Personal Goal Plans (PGP) for each direct report
  • Actively maintains talent management/succession plan; proactively identifies and recruits’ candidates as business need dictates
  • Recognizes/rewards top performers based on performance and demonstrated behaviors 

Manager Risk (15%)

  • Ensures individual and team knowledge/execution of all operational policies and procedures
  • Manages non-credit losses (including teller differences)
  • Achieves minimum satisfactory audit rating on Pre-Audit Review and formal internal audit
  • Owns monthly operational activity processes (BICR)
  • Manages past due loans and customer overdrafts to minimize loss exposure
  • Adheres to the Bank’s information security policies and manages customer and Bank information appropriately

Teamwork and Influence (10%)

  • Builds collaborative, results-oriented relationships with prioritized key internal partners: market branch manager peers, Customer Service and other Operations staff, Loan Operations staff, Retail Administration team, Human Resources, market Commercial team, C&F Mortgage and C&F Wealth Management representatives, and Treasury Solutions
  • Builds relationships with key centers of influence in the community, such as small business owners, real estate agents, charity organization leaders, and builders as well as independent practices of attorneys, physicians, and dentists

Special Projects/Other Duties

  • Assists with special projects and other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Knowledge:
3-5 years banking experience with 1-2 years of branch management experience preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge of basic accounting, finance, and relationship-driven new customer acquisition business development are required.

 

Skills:

Strong interpersonal, organizational, time management, and communication skills, including business writing and public speaking, are required. Small business and consumer credit skills, including balance sheet/financial statement analysis strongly preferred. Excellent negotiating skills preferred. Results-orientation is a must.

 

Abilities:
Demonstrated ability to be effective in business community networking, prospecting, and leadership. Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels and from all walks of life. Proven ability to acquire new customers to include prospecting, gaining meetings, interviewing, and closing.

 

Education:
HS diploma or GED is required; Bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred, preferably in finance,
banking, or a related field; a combination of experience and education will be considered.

Physical demands:
Employee may experience the following physical demands for extended periods of time: view computer monitors, keyboarding, sitting, motion of fingers/hands/wrists, and standing/walking; occasional lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling up to 20 pounds.

Work Environment:
Work is performed in an operational office environment.
